Hello dear administrator!
I would like to offer here options that are missing in the software, which are necessary. They are:
1. Sorting the result by file type. (After performing the search, give the option to display only a certain file type first, and then the other file types will follow).
2. Option to display only the source line, that is, only the title of the documents.
Thank you very much!
What options are missing in the software, which are necessary and useful?

Re: What options are missing in the software, which are necessary and useful?
Hi,
thanks for sharing your thoughts!
1. How does sorting help you in finding the correct document? Such a sorting would be difficult to implement, because the sorting would need to be performed in the Lucene Search Engine. And having one document type first and then all others is not an easy one... Wouldn't it suffice to filter for a specific file type (or group type like documents or Word files), as it is already implemented? Then you only search for files, which are of a very specific type. And if there is no result, just select the next type (or all). Please describe your use case more in-depth in order to make me understand how this will improve the search result.
2. Ok, in that way more results can be seen without scrolling. This might be a good idea, which I will keep in mind for one of the next versions. Thanks
Best regards,
Andre

Re: What options are missing in the software, which are necessary and useful?
Let's illustrate our need with an example:
Let's say I have 100 Word files on my computer, 150 PDF files, 200 Notepad files, and 200 other types of files, 20 files of each type. A total of 10 additional file types.
Now I performed a search with the software, and the software displayed all of these files in the search results.
Now I want to know and see if my desired result is also in the PDF file type?
How can I easily and quickly find the required file?
Here I have a double problem:
And why?
1. The files that appear in the search results, at first, are Notepad, for example.
2. In addition, the PDF file type is scattered throughout the hundreds of search results.
3. In addition, I don't want to go through and check file by file to locate the PDF file I want. Because if so, I will have to go through these 150 files!
So, what solution do I have to offer?
There are several possible solutions:
1. After the software has performed a search, it will show me and arrange all the files by file type. Or there will be an option to do so, after the search has been performed and not before!
And in addition to that, it will show the same file type - according to how the user chooses to display. That is: or by relevance. or by date, or by file size, and so on.
In summary: First, all the PDF files will be displayed, and then the PDF files themselves will also be displayed by relevance or by date and so on. [And then all the other file types, according to the same principle].
2. Another option, or in addition, after the software has performed a search and displayed thousands of documents (for example, I have over 100 thousand documents on my computer!!), is to create a new search pane, above the search results, in which they can write and find the desired file name, for immediate display.

Re: What options are missing in the software, which are necessary and useful?
Hi,
thanks for the explanation.
But what I miss is a description why the file type filter doesn't help you for your task (and how it could be improved, like for sorting).
If you press the arrow down button right of the search box, a filter area is expanded:

There you can select various file types (or back to all of them). Clicking on a file type will immediately filter the results and show you e.g. only PDF files.
Please help me to understand why these filters doesn't help you to find the correct document?
Best regards,
Andre

Re: What options are missing in the software, which are necessary and useful?
Hello Andre
And thanks for the question!
Indeed, the search software has the option to display only the selected file in the search results (PDF, Word, Notepad, etc.).
And to clarify, the software allows you to display only the selected file type! That is, if you want to see the result only in PDF files, then it will show you only PDF files! And you will eliminate the other file types from the search results!!
That is, you cannot see both PDF and Word at the same time, but you must select each time anew what you want to see now - PDF or Word files? So, after you have selected the sorting options in PDF files and gone through them and you later want to see the results in Word files, you must once again access the sorting options and reselect Word files. And after you've gone through Word files and you want to see a different file type, you have to go back to the sorting options and select the file type you want, and after you've selected it and gone through the same files and you want to see a different file type again, then you have to go back to the sorting and filtering options and select the file type you want, and so on and so forth.
Now in light of what I explained [that it is a hassle and effort to select the type of file I want to see every time, and that there is difficulty finding the requested and desired file], I therefore recommended defining additional options in the software for selecting and sorting file types:
Here are some different options:
Option 1
That the file types will appear in the search results like this, as in the following example:
PDF file
PDF file
PDF file
PDF file
PDF file
Word file
Word file
Word file
Word file
Word file
Word file
Word file
File....
File....
File....
File....
File....
And not just as it is currently in the software, where it is possible to select only one file type and all other file types disappear from the search results. In order to see them too, you have to reselect the desired type. (Or select all, but then all file types are mixed and scattered throughout the search results and not organized by file type).
Option 2
Filtering and sorting by relevance.
That is, the software will first display the files in which the search word or phrase appears the most times. Then it will display the files with lower search results, then it will display the files with even lower search results, and so on and so forth.
For example: File 1 in which the search word appears 10 times - will appear first.
After that, file 2 in which the search word appears 9 times will appear after the first file.
After that, file 3 in which the search word appears 8 times will appear after it [which is after file 2],
and so on and so on.
Option 3
Search for "document name" among the existing search results.
After performing the search and displaying thousands of documents one after the other, I would like to know, among all the thousands of documents, is the result also found in a document of a certain program, or is it not included in the search results?
Therefore, for this purpose, it is recommended that there be a "Search Results" panel, a panel in which they can write the name of the desired document and check and find out whether that document is also included and found in the search results, or not?
And thanks for the question!

Re: What options are missing in the software, which are necessary and useful?
Hi,
currently there are the following options for defining the sort order:

So, your option 2 would be "Best search result"
Option 3 would probably (after having performed the initial sort) to add the following term to the advanced search (e.g. at the beginning of the search term):
fn:<filename part>
That way, the result set is reduced by having also the filename part in the filename (e.g. fn:invoice*)
Option 1 is only possible by having another sort criteria, like "Extension: A-Z" and "Extension Z-A".
I am not sure that this is helpful, even more if there are hundreds of results. In that case you do not have a preferred order like "first PDFs, then Word files, then Excel files" - this would require a complex configuration in the settings.
If there are not hundreds of documents, then having them best sorted by "Best search result" and maybe setting up a filter for one file type (if the desired result is not within the first 10-20 documents)...
So, I am still hesitant about this option. I am also not sure whether the two sort criterias by extension is a good idea...
Thanks for your insights!

Andre
